Lunsaran (literally meaning launchpad or starting point) is the Educational Media Center’s dedicated local research collection that serves as a repository and gateway for scholarly works produced within the institution and its surrounding communities. The collection highlights research that reflects local knowledge, contexts, issues, and innovations, providing a foundation for further inquiry and academic engagement.

The Lunsaran Collection gathers theses, dissertations, faculty research, institutional studies, community-based research, and other scholarly outputs that contribute to understanding local realities and practices. By preserving and organizing these works, Lunsaran supports the EMC’s role in promoting knowledge sharing, evidence-based practice, and locally grounded scholarship.

Beyond preservation, Lunsaran functions as a platform for discovery and inspiration. Students, faculty, and researchers can access previous studies to identify research gaps, explore methodological approaches, and build upon existing knowledge. In this way, the collection becomes a launching point for new research, encouraging scholars to engage with local contexts and contribute to the growth of the institution’s research culture.

Through Lunsaran, the EMC strengthens its commitment to making local scholarship visible, accessible, and impactful, ensuring that research generated within the community continues to inform learning, innovation, and development.

Factors Affecting User Engagement of a Reading Application for a School Library

Winna Mia Victoria D. Buenviaje, Ateneo de Manila University, 2022

Abstract

OverDrive is a digital content provider that envisions “a world enlightened by reading” (OverDrive, 2020, para. 1). As one of its reading applications, Sora was designed around the modern reading experience that provides powerful tools, fixed-layout support, read-along, reading settings, and a synced progress between devices. In this study, Sora was evaluated to explore users’ behavior and intention to use the system through the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) Model. This study aims to identify the factors that affect students’ use of Sora and whether it affects user engagement. Three hundred sixty-three (363) students of the Ateneo de Manila Junior High School enrolled in S.Y. 2021-2022 answered a survey questionnaire through Google Form. Results had shown that perception and belief that using the reading application will improve learning have significant effect to the user engagement. It also established that achievements, together with technical support and social influences that users have can be forms of motivator to promote use. Due to the overall neutrality toward usage intention, the study also reveals that respondents have not yet thoroughly engaged themselves in utilizing the reading application, which may be affected by the limitations on time constraints and self-reported data. The library’s encouragement and support has been the primary source of awareness and motivation in using the reading application’s quality resources, which also confirm the library’s critical role in improving the resources by making it more useful for reading and learning as well as promoting this type of service to its users.
