Lunsaran (literally meaning launchpad or starting point) is the Educational Media Center’s dedicated local research collection that serves as a repository and gateway for scholarly works produced within the institution and its surrounding communities. The collection highlights research that reflects local knowledge, contexts, issues, and innovations, providing a foundation for further inquiry and academic engagement.

The Lunsaran Collection gathers theses, dissertations, faculty research, institutional studies, community-based research, and other scholarly outputs that contribute to understanding local realities and practices. By preserving and organizing these works, Lunsaran supports the EMC’s role in promoting knowledge sharing, evidence-based practice, and locally grounded scholarship.

Beyond preservation, Lunsaran functions as a platform for discovery and inspiration. Students, faculty, and researchers can access previous studies to identify research gaps, explore methodological approaches, and build upon existing knowledge. In this way, the collection becomes a launching point for new research, encouraging scholars to engage with local contexts and contribute to the growth of the institution’s research culture.

Through Lunsaran, the EMC strengthens its commitment to making local scholarship visible, accessible, and impactful, ensuring that research generated within the community continues to inform learning, innovation, and development.

Quezon City: The Rise of a Capital City of the Philippines, 1939-1977

Jamaico Ignacio, University of Santo Tomas, 2016

Abstract

For a period of time, Quezon City became the capital of the Philippines. The study seeks to determine the status of Quezon City as capital of the Philippines from its conceptualization in 1939 to its designation as capital in 1948 until the subsequent return of the capital to Manila in 1976. Utilizing the descriptive-analytical method, the aim of this study is to create a historical narrative of Quezon City as capital by analyzing the intentions behind the establishment and dislodgement of Quezon City as capital. This study is anchored on the theme of “elitist nation and state building,” a theory that explains the political movement involving the relocation of a capital city as a form of exercise of power by the elite.
