Teen Read Week (TRW) is an adolescent reading initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), which is being adopted by school libraries worldwide. It began in 1998 and is celebrated during the months of October–November to encourage teens to spend time reading for pleasure. The main theme for the Teen Read Week initiative is “Read for the Fun of It”, and a sub-theme is adopted each year to serve as the basis for developing programs among school libraries all over the world.

During SY 2021–2022, the English Subject Area launched its Reading Interest Program, a year-long project that promotes the love of reading among AJHS students. The main vehicle for this program is the Online Communication Arts Month (OnCAM), which features various engaging activities for students. Along the same line, part of the mission of the Educational Media Center (EMC) is to promote literary appreciation and provide a conducive learning environment with access to various formats and resources.

The culmination of the activity will be Teen Read Week. The theme for this year is “Oh, the Places You’ll Go! @ Your Library”. Based on the book by Dr. Seuss, the theme reminds everyone that “Today is your day” and “You’re off to great places.” The story teaches that life is a journey filled with highs and lows—some days “you’ll move mountains,” while on others, “you’ll feel stuck waiting for something to happen.” This theme reflects life experiences and encourages everyone to remain hopeful and optimistic.
